The My Favorite Robot
label is on a roll at the moment with recent killer singles from Kenny Glasgow,
James Teej and Vandermeer receiving massive support, now Toronto house hero
Jonny White teams up with both the label and the boys behind the My Favorite
Robot name for this journey into the outer realms of twisted vocal electronica.
White has had an incredible
couple of years, seeing his No.19 Music label become a mainstay in Dj boxes
across the world, travelling the globe as a DJ, and running label nights from
Toronto to London. My Favorite Robot AKA Jared Simms and Voytek Korab have
likewise had a great run of things with their label receiving plaudits from
press and DJs alike with its mix of homegrown talent and top notch
international remixers.
This single package kicks
of with the original of ‘Desenitize’, a wonderfully brooding slab of deep and
dark electro tinged electronica. Broken drums and tight synth melodies provide
the perfect backing to the ethereal vocals of the Robots, the production is
crisp but understated and the end result here is a truly engaging record.
The first of the remixes
comes from awesome French DJ/Producer, Chloe (Kill the DJ) who turns in a deep
and techy house reworking that retains much of the leftfield character of the
original whilst driving things very much in the direction of the dancefloor.
Heavily effected vocal edits and time delayed synth parts create a swirling
vortex of sound at the core of this truly different and exciting remix.
Next up we have
International Deejay Gigolo artist The Model, who will be releasing an EP of
his own on MFR later this year. Here, in his first remix duty for the label, he
delivers a throbbing house cut that layers electro style melodies over an
eighties influenced undercarriage, pure class.
Moodmusic’s Phonogenic
closes the package with a remix and a dub version both of which venture in deep
house territory and provide two further highlights on this already incredible
package. The Phonogenic mixes are already picking up support from the likes of
Ian Pooley, Osunlade and Ashley Beedle and with their subtle mix of understated
drums and warm, engaging pads and Fx its easy to see why.
