Environ-Mental Recordings is the new label from German Techno institution
Mijk van Dijk, already know as Microglobe, but also for many other projects
including Marmion, Mijk’s Magic Marble Box, Mind Gear, Plato
and more which helped him gaining the status of one of the most innovative
and driving forces of the upstarting Techno Cuture in the early 90ies. As
Loopzone he released the first Techno records out of Berlin.
The label is designed to be a platform for new tracks created in his Berlinbased
studio, ‚The Deerpark‘, as well as digitally re-mastered 90s gems,
which were only available as the physical copies on the MFS Berlin label
in the 90s. Timeless music for the next generation, freshly squeezed and
re-mastered!
Environ-Mental thinking is a big issue right now. Most of us understand, that
we can‘t go on living how we are, wasting the many precious resources of
our planet and leading irresponsible lifestlyes.
Mijk van Dijk dealt with these issues already 15 years ago on his groundbreaking
debut album ”Afreuropamericasiaustralica” under his project
Microglobe which was released in 1994 on the now discontinued label
„MFS - Masterminded For Success“ from Berlin. The label was a leader
in the genre, along with other key players like Superstition, and together
defined a new moment in music history. A true milestone in the early development
of the Techno-Trance-Ambient movement that came out of Europe
in the 90s, this very special re-release is a celebration of all that is good and
positive about this sound.
In 14 tracks, merged into one fantastic mix, young Mijk shared his visions
about the state of our planet and cultures. He stood for those indisputable
values of House music in ‚All Our Colours‘, identifies the now often
discussed ‚Culture Clash‘ as a ‚Fear Of The Unknown‘ and spreads rays of
hope towards the album‘s finale with the track ‚The Good Earth‘.
The first single to be released off of the album was the track ‚Environ-Mentality‘.
In 1993, a time when every other techno track was raving about Xtasy
or violet skies, Mijk called a warning: „Wake up children, your parents
won‘t change this world. They are too old. They‘ve already lived their lives
and taken all they could get. And you will inherit a planet - damaged! Just
for the sake of luxury. Wake up children, there isn‘t much time!“
True then and even more true now. And another good reason to re-release
this ground-breaking album of timeless, astonishing tracks, breathing the
musical spirit of post-fall of the wall Berlin with all its facettes of Techno,
House, Ambient and early Trance.
During the making of the original album, Mijk chose to construct the tracks
in a fashion that would make it easy to glue them together in the mastering
studio. Remember, this was the MIDI age, when harddisk recording was
still unbelievably rare and expensive. His studio was only a mere collection
of old and cheap gear from the second-hand shop, MIDI-controlled by an
Atari. As a result of this intensive production method most of the original
tracks on the CD album had no proper start or ending, so Mijk personally
edited all tracks for this 2010-re-release to let each of them stand alone on
its own digital feet.
The re-release of Mijk’s first album also marks the launch of his first label
‚Environ-Mental Recordings‘, which is dedicated to reduce all possible
waste of natural resources. That‘s why we ‚change within‘ and go all digital
for the first time with the music, artwork and paperwork, to show our ‚ambition‘
to preserve our planet „Afreuropamericasiaustralica“.
Stay tuned for more to come!
