There's a duality to Jin Choi. And you can see it in his music…
Born in Korea, raised in Germany (now living in Berlin). The Hardcore and the Indierock past, the subtle, almost intellectual house and techno future. His balancing act between the business world and his private love of all things that are anti-business. Hell, Jin even has two birthdays (one that’s his actual one, and one that is listed on his passport).
He makes music to communicate emotion. A message or a feeling that he feels is absolutely essential. From his early sparse techno offerings, which included rules about rhythm without claps or obvious hi-hat patterns, to his current obsession with treated pianos, tightly wound snappy percussions and treated but beautiful vocals, Jin has always had a unique and strong voice. Always knowing what sound was needed, and where to place it in the frequency spectrum.
This year will bring the founding of his new record label, Private Gold. A vehicle with which to release emotional, intellectual, and beautiful music of his own and a few close friends, that will find a place with a label that is willing to take risks and occasionally steps away from the dancefloor, a label that is working for its artists and the quality of the music, a label that doesn’t want to compromise.
Accomplishments include amazing EPs on Lessizmore, Archipel, Ware, Contexterrior, Serialism, Roman-photo and Systematic, which all received critical acclaim from artists and fans alike. But he's not one to rest on his laurels. The future holds big things from Jin Choi.
