In 2005, James T. Cotton teamed up with D’Marc Cantu to create 2 AM/FM, a new extension of the acid house built by the pioneers of the 1980s and 90s. Their first release, Pt. 1, features raw drum boxes and cavernous synths in line with the sound of Rephlex and Trax Records. Unapologetically avoiding contemporary, flashy production techniques, this 5-track EP received support from DJ Koze, Laurent Garnier, and The Hacker among others. Following a reinterpretation of "T-Y-O-C Painkillers" on Cotton's Oochie Coo single, 2 AM/FM geared up for Pt. 2, which includes the 13-minute "Acid Planes".
