I grew up in north west London. Kilburn to be exact. Born to a Japanese mother an English father who are both huge music lovers, I was always exposed to a diverse range of sounds from when I was young. When I was 5 I used to get my dad's mates to make me heavy metal and punk mixtapes (which I used to play on some mini fisherprice cassette player). I thought I was so cool. Jumping around my living room waving around a thundercats sword pumping out crazy noisy music. Oh yes. Those were the days. But now these are the days. I soon got into creating music (it had to happen). When I was 14 I got a cracked version of cubase VST and taught myself how to make hip hop beats. dropping the occasional lyric here and there I thought I was gonna be a hip hop superstar. Until I realised how much hip hop started to suck. BIG TIME. I got bored, got some better equipment, started making trip hop and dub (which I still do a lot of) and began exploring many other different genres.
Then I started going to parties in east london. My previous perception of house and techno completely changed. I was never into the cheesy commercial dance music that i used to hear everywhere. This was so different. Dark minimal beats and deep hypnotic vibes. I loved it.
Now alternative dance music is a major part of my productions. But generally i just create music from the heart and my tracks all contain bits of my emotions and feelings. blah blah blah. I still use minimal equipment to make my tracks. I don't think it's about what you got, it's about utilising what you have to the fullest! (maybe my opinion will change when i have the money to buy lots of fancy gear.. hehe)
