Living in a
musical home, filled with a harpsichord, guitar, an electric piano and a mob of
bush band instruments, threw Nathan Jonson into the world of Hrdvsion. Having
these instruments surrounding him helped to develop his interest in abusing
sound at the age of 8. As Mat and Nathan grew up, and their parents became more tolerant to their
music, the headphones came off and Mat's music began to influence him away from
the Classical and toward Techno and Hip Hop. Mat eventually took the direction
of outboard gear and Nathan continued to work on the
MIDI
piano though now in conjunction with a computer extending further into
experimentation and post production. Mat's music became effortlessly smooth,
with seamless transitions, while Nathan's became chopped and disjointed. Loving
the over edited Squarepusher and Aphex Twin, he pushed beyond Hiphop and Dance
into Jungle. Not quite feeling confident enough to perform live, he joined a few DJ friends
at the age of 17 for a weekly night at the local outcast coffee bar. Full of
what he thought at the time to be the most open minded of the city (
Victoria BC
Canada) he played audaciously, his
favourite records, to what turned out to be a crowd that wanted nothing to do
with him if there was no House music. Feeling discouraged he decided to take a
break from DJ'ing. Over 2 years and a few computers later, he built up his courage again to a
level that would permit him to perform live at his brother’s birthday rave. Now
even cockier than before he assaulted the crowd with noisey Drum and Bass and
destroyed a Britney Spears track to everyone's horror. The rush he felt
cemented him and music.
Now 5 years later he has began fusing Techno with experimental music to create
something now dance friendly and still adventurous. With releases on
Itiswhatitis, Subpop, and Plak, he's heard much possitive feedback including
being charted/played by Dominik Eulberg, Laurent Garnier, and Mathew Jonson.
Because of this he has had the opportunity to perform at Pop Montreal, and have
releases to come, on Plak, Traum, and Wagon Repair. Music is in his blood and
will always be apart of his life.
