Born in Kerala, southern India in 1974, Anu moved to Newcastle with his family later that year. He began playing the piano at the age of six, and the ‘cello at ten. As a teenager, the lure of rock and roll tempted Anu to pick up various instruments, from guitar and bass, to drums and percussion, as well as experimenting with synthesisers and emerging music technologies. With the explosion of dance music at the tail end of the eighties, Anu found a focus for his worryingly avid record collecting, and started to DJ in 1990. It was around this time that he also began to concentrate on using his talents as a multi instrumentalist and writer, working in his own home studio. During his student days at Cambridge University, Anu pursued his love of dance music, dragging Cambridge upto date with his DJ residencies and promotion of large events. Anu brought some of the worlds finest DJ’s and bands to Cambridge, and it was here that he established himself within the wider dance music industry. Although Anu’s interest in music for picture began in 1992, when he was commissioned to score a Carlton television documentary, it was not until leaving University in 1996 that this was re-awakened. A mutual friend put Anu and Logorhythm Music in touch, and Anu was soon on board. Following a stint in the office learning the production side of the business, Anu later displayed his talents as a writer, and by 1998 was working full time as an in house composer at Logorhythm, working on campaigns for Coca-Cola, Pringles, Renault, Subaru and the BBC to name a few. At the same time, Anu continues to work on his Freeform Five recording and remixing projects, to increasing acclaim. Dimitri from Paris called his remix of Isolee, “the most inspired remix of the last twenty years,” while Mr. Scruff said that Anu’s mix of mercury-prize nominated Nitin Sawhney was “the pinnacle of splendidness!” His global fans range from Kruder and Dorfmeister to Masters at Work. This kind of support has taken Anu around the world as a DJ. He has played in such diverse places as Norway, Ibiza, Belgium, America and even China! The increasing studio pressures mean that he limits his DJ’ing in the UK, but Anu has recently taken up a monthly residency at The End nightclub in London, with Classic records.
