Superdefekt aka sdfkt. aka Tim Lorenz (co)hostes the famous MFOC (sunday) nights at Hamburgs finest micro club “Golden Pudel”. Clubbing since 1987 as well as Djing since 1993 he has a knowledge of about 20 years of all kinds of electronic music with a special interest in all things breakbeat, be it electro, electronica, drum’n'bass, dubstep or Bass Music.
Below you will find his recommendation of the WEEK 51:
Finally something new by Instra:Mental‘s Jon Convex, long overdue regarding that release bonanza his partner in crime Boddika was on lately. Pop That P is a swinging 808 tune, owing as much to classical electro as it does to booty tech, which screams Hit! out of every groove. Your Mind (Or Mine) on the flipside then is a lot darker tune with a penetrating sub bass and a noisy lead line. Quality stuff both.
JON CONVEX - Bump And Grind / Closer - Convex Industries - CONVEX001 – 2011-12-19 Bump And Grind is a frikkin‘ peak time tune, no less. Relined by a mandatory electro groove, very much reminiscent of those latest Instra‘Mental and Boddika tracks, Convex uses a cleverly processed vocal line, which borders on pop terrain, in most hypnotic ways. Closer is a bit more laid back, with lush detroit synth pads. Both are top tunes, as can be expected by Convex. Recommended.
PRESK AND CINNAMON – Sweat - Audio Culture Label - ACLBL001 – 2011-12-19
PRESK AND CINNAMON – Sweat - Audio Culture Label - ACLBL001 – 2011-12-19 This seems to be Jon Convex‘s week. Two original releases on Naked Lunch and his own Convex Industries label, which are more than worth checking out, and then we have his remix of Presk and Cinnamon‘s Sweat here, another razor sharp future electro tune, which leaves nothing to be desired. The original track itself is a sort of cyber tech house tune, marrying elements of house, techno and bass music in the most cleverly ways. Finally we have Doc Daneeka on the remix front who turns the track into a deeply swinging bass house tune in his own right. All killers, no fillers, what more can you expect.
DESTO & CLOUDS & JIMI TENOR - Time Bird feat. Cha Cha - 502 Recordings – 502004 Jimi Tenor entering the bass music land? Why not. Title track Time Bird is a slow and atmospheric future bass joint with jazzy interludes in the cosmic space jazz vein - Tenor‘s influence is very strong on this one, no doubt. Eightfold Path on the flipside goes in a different direction, with a clever electro beat, hypnotic flute melodies, some deep bass waves and a lot of action on the dub front. One for the latenite dancefloors.
CESSA - Nameless / Flow - Missing Link Records - MLS006 – 2011-12-19
CESSA - Nameless / Flow - Missing Link Records - MLS006 – 2011-12-19 Two beautiful future garage tunes, Nameless being more dancefloor friendly one of the duo. Breaky rhythm, warm pads, staggering synth lead lines - it all sits perfect here. Flow then is a more relaxed early morning tune with dubbed out chords and vocal samples like UK garage on valium. As said before, beautiful .
KNOWING LOOKS - Listen To My 45 / Ghost Baby - WNCL Recordings - WNCL009 – 2011-12-19 Advanced UK Bass from the WNCL department. Listen To My 45 combines flamenco like guitar sample fragments with with a vocal line processed and layered in clever ways and a almost speed garage like drum pattern in the most strange ways. Definitely not for the lighthearted, but then WNCL is known for its more experimental approach to contemporary bass music. And it gets even weirder on Ghost Baby, melting a bass heavy beat with a squelching synth pattern and some pretty wild amen break variations. Freaky bass par excellence.
