Bored of laptop sets? With a “classic” setup of guitar, bass and drums, Elektro Guzzi quantize themselves to an unheard level of discipline, tightness and danceability. No computers, no pre-recorded loops, no solos. Probably the first time techno is really played live. As sequential as they may sound, they couldn’t be more analogue. But however traditional they may look as a band, they certainly do not sound like one. Produced by Patrick Pulsinger, the tracks “Hexenschuss” and “Elastic Bulb” are great dancefloor movers, state of the art analogue recordings and prime examples of Elektro Guzzi’s incredible creative capabilities. Played live with no overdubs, these tracks break down the demarcation separating man and machine. Everything in techno has been done? You ain’t heard nothing yet. However, speaking of a comeback of Lorber would be both consequent and not thinking far ahead, as Tres is an artist collective being rather entrenched in the Frankfurt Tech House scene. Besides Lorber, 2Dollar Egg member Eric Besier and Bernd Maus, one half of Gadgets and co-owner of Freebase, one of Germany's most successful record shops, form the trio Tres. After two Maxis for Lorber's nummer label, the three beat wizards are now pumping up the bass on four tracks (two of them being included in the digital version only) to majestic size. While "Uno" with its subsonic rhythm texture is clearly made under the signs of reduction, "Duo" gives a slight foretaste to this year's Open Air season with a significantly more playful touch of harmony and a percussive beat frame. When it comes to the digital bonus tracks, especially "Tres" convinces as an equally modern and depth-of-focus interpretation of tribal Dub Techno. With his "Air Conditionné EP" on Electric Rescue's Skryptom label in 2006, he provided the scene with a true consensus hit, and further collaborations with and remixes for Oxia, Scan X, Danton Eeprom or Sébastien Léger have cemented his reputation as one of the most promising young talents in electronic dance music. His current EP for Cocoon stands for uncompromising and demanding Techno in its purest form: from the initially more sizzling sound layer in "Color" emerges after two minutes in the first break a hysterically screaming 'saw of sinus', where you almost seem to hear the screams of the people echoing on the dancefloor. "Amore" builds up more streamline-like in the style of Steve Bug, but: don't panic – you will also hear some really demanding breaks in this one. It has been mixed and edited by Chris Liebing and all the 10 tracks, which appear on the singles and later on the compilation are exclusive and specifically produced for this purpose. Chris Liebing and Green Velvet teamed up for the first time pretty much by accident. Dustin Zahn actually became some kind of obstetrician when he started this mash-up. Alex Bau is known as one of the long time CLR artists and obviously had to contribute a track to the series.
