The fearless, fantastic and ever so foolish Felix Dickinson is back in the house, donning his Bastedos alias for some leftfield disco magic on Berlin's Jolly Jams imprint. The Cynic boss pays tribute to the legendary Eddy Grant on this release, putting his editing expertise to good use on a diverse trio of covers of Coach House Rhythm Section's electro disco classic "Nobody's Got Time". The A-side version "Got Time", probably sticks closest to the original version, but transplants the tale from London to Lagos, adding highlife guitars, live bass and wild moog solos for a sweaty dancefloor atmosphere. Next up, "Nobody" takes the tempo down a notch and takes another step into the world of late night Lagos, as Eddy Grant's propulsive electro disco anthem is reborn as a stripped back afro-funk number, complete with blaring horns, mindbending synths and funky breakbeats. To finish, Felix takes a totally different tack, running his scalpel over a female voiced new wave version to transform it into the proto house, proper Balearic anthem it always should have been. Spacey and synthetic, but with a white funk undercurrent running through it. Felix in the house!
