Bok Bok & L-Vis 1990's Night Slugs label presents their third official release: the "I.R.L" EP from London producer GIRL UNIT. Following years of DJing alongside the Night Slugs camp and recent remixes for Palms Out Sounds and Buraka's Enchufada label, this will be Girl Unit's debut solo release. On it he presents three incredible original tracks that together collect into an emotional dancefloor journey. The lead track "IRL" is already a massive underground anthem in London, being sought after by DJs far and wide. The track's broken 808 drumkit captures the manic energy of Chicago's footwork/Juke movement at a UK-friendly 135bpm, while its monster island horns signal the coming of an ominous beast. "IRL" references both Chicago and London in equal parts, however the arrival of the iconic neon FM synth that permeates the track launches it high into orbit. "Shade On" picks up where "IRL" left off with another synthed-out, juked-out excursion even further into the realms of space. This time pitched toms are set against arpeggiated harps in a battle of nice vs nasty. Completing the trio is the sublime "Temple Keys", on which Girl Unit extends his 808 soundkit into lush, warm new climes. The dreamy piano keys that give the track its name recall Detroit pioneer Mr De, while a pulsating worm of a sawtooth elevates the listener to sweet after-hours ecstasy. The digital version of the EP is accompanied by two very special remixes. The first sees SCRATCHA DVA reinterpret "IRL" with his "Hi Emotions" remix. Piling on the sweltering pressure, DVA picks up particularly on the monstrous vibe of the original. This broken, grimey riddim makes a fitting soundtrack to Godzilla's destruction of some anonymous tropical island. Meanwhile young Parisian FRENCH FRIES' mix draws for tribal percussion and a massive jerking sub-bass, expanding "IRL" to its full bigroom potential. This is Night Slugs' proudest release yet!

Untold

The remixes are cool but its the original all the way for me. He/She/They have created the ultimate - an anthem with just three sounds. Will play and probably open most of my sets with this. Sick release!

Peverelist

"IRL" sounding big. Night Slugs always does well.

Subeena
