For the avid deephouse fan and collector releases on Firecracker are a way too rare find - only 6 releases in 6 years so far; but this tight quality control ensures that every single issue stood out mile-high and easily made it on loads of "releases of the year" lists. Ukrainian DJ & producer Vakula - who's shot to fame came with his residency at Moscow's Propaganda Club and great releases on Quintessential or Uzuri - convincingly continues this tradition with this latest entry: a collection of musically advanced house tracks planted with one feet in the Detroit Beatdwon school of house combining soul samples, crunchy beats and hazy jazz chords but adding his very own touches like the a slighty spooky melody at the end of "black & white " or the 80ies boogie style bassline kicking in late in "you can do it". The only gripe one can have is that the tracks could easily run for twice as long yet Vakula easily manages to cram more surprising ideas into 5 minutes than most artists manage to come up with for 5 EPs.
