Quite simply, London-based DJ/producer Toby Gale is a breath of fresh air. Hailing from London town, Gale’s eclectic disco rhythms are both forward thinking and nostalgic, providing a unique marriage of classic French Disco and blunted Hip-Hop. As both a drummer and pianist, Gale took to producing three years ago, widely drawing upon influen- ces from Leroy Hutson and Billy Ocean, to the revolutionary glitch- induced beats of Swiss super-producer Dimlite and crunchy beatsmith FlyLo. In fact, such a combination of musical styles conjures feelings of fun fair fuelled childhood silliness, but the colourful musical chapters infinitely mature his work. With progressive, minimal drum patterns coupled with razor-sharp sampling, the result is imminent jubilation. The sun-washed synths are, in the vein of the L.A beat scene, masked and shielded from over-exposure, resulting in the most fleeting of broken disco harmony. Gale frequently flirts with divine melodies, powered by the relentless drive of his pounding drums, and we find ourselves eager for more. Bubbling on the brim of a host of blogs including RCRDLBL, Discobelle, and Yours Truly, Toby Gale is indeed one to watch for the coming months, with frequent DJ spots around London’s Bass scene, and aspirations for foreign shores. Big radio support BBC’s Rob da Bank also stands amongst Gale’s achievements, hinting at big things to come, and an immensely promising year ahead.
