Born in
Rhodes,
Greece in the mid eighties, Argy
started drawing at a very young age. Although having great potential in
becoming a professional painter, he one day woke up and didn't feel like
drawing again. Ever. Music had come to replace the outlet of
artistic expression in his life.
The acoustic and rhythmic sound of bossa nova and a love of the New York house
(with influence from DJ's such as Kevin Yost, Masters at work and Parisian Dj
Gregory) persuaded him and acted as his main influences when he began djing at
the age of 14. Argy started getting into a more electronic sound by the late
nineties with labels such as ESL, G-stone and Compost. In fact, it was
only after his
London
move that he widened his vision and sound continuum expanding his musical
tastes to follow a more electronic conduit, refining his ear and developing
himself as a producer. Subsequently, in synchrony with the progression of
the dance music industry, Argy found himself producing a more futuristic,
electronic sound based on his main musical influences.
Like many electronic music producers, Argy felt the pull towards a city where
the electronic music scene was thriving - a promise of greater potential, and
an outlet in which his passion could be fervent. In 2003, with these
thoughts in mind, Argy moved to
London.
His first big break took place in 2005 with the signing of his first EP, 'Love
Dose' on the renowned German label, Poker Flat Recordings. It was after
this initial success that his career really started to take shape. His
ingenuity and distinctiveness opened doors for him as he gained respect as an
artist. Argy was soon releasing on Raum Musik and was happy to have the
opportunity to make another EP for Poker Flat. Argy was improving his
reputation in the electronic music scene. He found the encouragement
through all of these successive movements and his creativity endured.
Music is something innate to him, a way for him to express himself and direct
his thoughts, putting into sound exactly what he feels in the moment.
Waiting for 'La Pasion' EP on Poker Flat and the 'Comerte' EP (as Joubin's
Cousin) on Cargo Edition, in summer 2006 he took advantage of the opportunities
that came up to work on several remixes for various artists. He is an
artist that believes in the natural elements of music production; "I like
music that is original, raw and unpretentious". He regards himself
with the same scrutiny as he does other producers holding clear-cut principles
about the nature and the risk of music making, professing 'I like people who
mess around and are unpredictable. People who have talent and don|t need
to depend on personal contacts".
While Argy reserves live performing for more ambitious album projects, he has
been blowing away the crowds of prestigious club nights with his dynamic,
colorful and sensual dj sets. When listening to his sets, one will find
that he plays a wide range of musical styles and genres. From old Warp
records to US House/Garage, minimal house, techno, disco funk and even straight-up
Latin!
The Future is bright and adventurous for Argy, as he refuses to become trapped
in a particular style of music or any single scene, preserving his worldly
influences and conveying them through his work. He is of a special breed
of musicians that express, without hindrance, their true nature through music,
in the most untainted and true way possible.
