For us, Ethyl, whether it’s alongside his
production partners Flori or Huxley, is single-handedly reclaiming deep
house for the more discerning ears. With only a handful of releases
under their collective belt on labels like Cecille Numbers and Tsuba
this seriously talented trio from London have managed to bring an
exciting new sound to the scene, and one that is rapidly finding fans
around the world. On their Freerange debut Ethyl & Flori join
forces to present 3 tracks of sublime, hypnotic grooves that we hope
will see them become the established artists they deserve to be. First
up is København, keeping the tempos low, the mood super deep and the
production mind bogglingly fat. This is some proper trippy late night
biz with a groove to make you shake and get lost in at the same time.
Simple as that. Next we have Tanqueray, a heavy shuffler full of dusty
Rhodes, MAW inspired snares and a tasty vocal hook that helps push the
swing to the next level. Completing this beautiful three tracker we
have July’s Barley, another homage to the old school harking back to
the days when things seemed so much warmer and more soulful. A pinch of
Nugroove, a dash of Larry Heard and a sprinkle of deep Detroit. Pure
bliss!
