‘‘I have always been surrounded by music since I was very young...my dad was a drummer in a band and he was always making me listen to music from the moment I was born. I remember one time very clearly…like a flashback, I was very little and my father bought home an album by Otis Redding. He put it on and as I listened to it for the first time the hairs on my arms and the back of my neck stood up. It was the first time I felt such a strong emotion. Later I discovered that only music is able to deliver such a powerful feeling – it’s different to other emotions.’ In the years that followed, Matteo’s passion for music grew and by the time he was 11 he had saved up enough money to buy his first guitar, slowly teaching himself how to play. Before long he was also composing his own songs and like all good teenage drop outs, had formed a garage punk band with his mates (featuring the legendary pisano on drums). Soon he found himself not only writing the guitar parts but also the bass and drums. Not surprisingly, school took second place and he could regularly be found jamming with the band when he should have been in double geography. Around the age of 17, a new direction emerged as he began experimenting with music software, adding electronic sounds and effects to the band’s demos, however it wasn't until he met up with Renato Figoli in 2001 that he really began immersing himself in the minimal house sound. Matteo desperately wanted to dj...he didn’t have the money to buy turntables but he did have a PC, so when Renato turned up one day with a cracked copy of Cubase 5 they set about recreating the sounds they were hearing on labels like Kompakt and Perlon. Fast forward five years and their style has matured into a distinctive, infectious blend of house and techno that is helping put Italian dance music back on the map. Matteo now has those turntables and his skills as a dj are just as assured as his productions which will also be appering on Trapez and Leftroom in the near future. He is an increasingly influencial player back home and as a result, will soon take up residency at Cagliari's new Microclub. For Matteo, it's all about expressing the feelings he has inside, communicating positive vibes and trying to generate in others the intense emotions he first experienced listening to Otis with his dad all those years ago.
