Nice & Nasty is a pioneering Irish label started by DJ/Writer Desy Balmer in 1993 in Belfast, inspired by Glen molloy, Robbie Nelson, Holmes & McCready and One World/Choice. Nice & Nasty along with Sugar Sweet and Underground and Dublin's Red where the first electornic/dance music labels in Ireland. Its name is a classic disco album by the Salsoul Orchestra, but in truth, Desy got the name from a Mixmag article on old hardcore rave act, The Messiah. Nice & Nasty symbolises Desy's attitude toward music, the scene and life in general - depending upon your point of view, taste everything is Nice or Nasty ergo everything is Nice & Nasty - anything else is just difference of opinion. An early success included the release of ’94 club anthem ‘Bolivian Angel’ by Ubiquity, the debut by Timmy Stewart (Bradshaw by McCartney & Stewart) and a collaborations with Matthew Bushwacka (Yellow Pencil remix) before moving south to Dublin. The label’s sound remains purposely undefined but it often falls into the area of techno and house; however, dubstep, breaks and ambient have been added to the multi-genre list. Nice & Nasty has raised the profile of many Irish artists internationally, and is now home to artists such as Terrence Dixon, Orlando Voorn, Itokim, Rennie Foster and Marco Bernardi, as well as countless Irish including The Parallel, Chymera, Mark O'Sullivan, Mick Chillage, Rob Glennon, Vakama, T-Polar and Tr-One. Its ever-growing fanbase includes Dave Clarke, Laurent Garnier, Dan Curtin, Slam, Richie Hawtin, Carl Cox, Surgeon, Fabrice Lig, Dave Mothersole and Ben Sims. All nice & nasty music can be bought online at discerning stores, like iTunes, Beatport, Juno, Zero-inch.com, Audiojelly, Beatsdigital etc. Presently Nice & Nasty have new vinyl from Rob Glennon in stores and the debut CD from Mark O'Sullivan aka DK7. On promo right now the next release from Orlando Voorn with remixes from Dave Ellsemere, Manuel Perez and others is causing a huge stir. Nice & Nasty also have a sub-label called Dublin Xpress and both are always open to ideas and demos, so get in touch.
