Sub Static is run by Falko Brocksieper and M.I.A. (Michaela Grobelny). Founded in 2000, Sub Static was conceived as a platform for the own production activities of the two, and those of a few surrounding people in the Cologne scene, such as René Breitbarth and Rafael Gomez. Also their friend Christian Morgenstern (r.i.p.) agreed to provide tracks for the start-off, resulting in his "Moment Of Truth EP" as a first release.Soon the label gained a reputation for its promising output within the emerging minimal techno scene, and the roster of artists started to grow more internationally, with guys like Unai, Matt & Mark Thibideau, Michael Langlois, Lump and dB, always trying to capture new & interesting movements within this style of music. As Mia and Falko gathered experience and influences as travelling DJ's, their musical ideas about Sub Static and own productions have always changed and renewed. Today Sub Static is known for its minimal dancefloor appeal, joining audacious approaches with a straighter drive, and achieving a certain functionality beyond just playing it safe. The past two years have been the most successful for Sub Static, with a series of much-adored releases by John Spring, Pan/Tone, Mathew Jonson, The Kooky Scientist, Mike & Dot, Shyza Minelli, Brian Aneurysm, M.I.A. and many more In 2004 Mia and Falko moved from Cologne to Berlin, along with the label affairs of Sub Static and Karloff Rekordings, their second label, which was started in 2003.
