THIS WEEK IN BASS – WEEK 33 / 34

Superdefekt’s Roundup of the last weeks entries in Dubstep, Techno, Halfstep, Nustep, UK Garage & House

-
Selection for the week 33 with releases by Dawn Day Night, Obey City, Pledge and more.

APHA008 - Dawn Day Night - Re-Animations EP - Astrophonica

With support by DJs like Addison Groove, Om Unit or Machinedrum it is quite clear that this EP delivers.
Ton heavy 808 grooves ranging from slow motion hip hop patterns to ultra nervous juke and booty house grooves get spiced up with sinister splatter movie samples making up for a first class bassfest. Recommended.

OSMUK032 - Ipman - Persistent Dread / Signal Motion - Osiris Music UK

Sub lowered bass juggernaut rhythms meet up with a dready reverbed dub techno feel in these two tracks by Ipman. One for the big hall dubstep warehouse raves.

Three more instrumental riddims of this thinking mans grime of sort. Adorably nonsensical synthetical flute melodies meet up with no nonsense gunshot drum patterns meant for the peak time dancefloor. This mixture results in a sound which is as charming as it is rewarding for the dancer. Highly recommended, no joke.

UTTU_SPOOKY - Spooky - Baby EP - Unknown To The Unknown

More next level grime on DJ Haus‘ UTTU label, tuff and ruff and ready to shake up the dancefloor. But it doesn‘t stop there, as the track is accompanied by versatile remixes by DJ Q, Matrixxmann, Da Autopsy and Mista Men, ranging from distorted bassline to funky 2step, chicago house mutations and back again. Highly recommended package.

LM016 - Obey City - Champagne Sounds - LuckyMe

There‘s been less and less of these lazer beam infused future hip hop beats the likes of Hudson Mohawke and Rustie are known for. Well Obey City on Hudmo‘s and Rustie‘s glasgowian mother label LuckyMe brings these back - and to maximum effect. Five class A tracks of beat swirling future hop and glistening next level cyber R‘n‘B. Top notch.

Big big compilation of true next level drum‘n‘bass tracks, ranging from electro infused bangers to mind boggling drum workouts to more dubstep akin sub bass odysseys. It‘s hard to pick one or two tracks here as it is quality from beginning to end. Big one.

L2S100 - Pledge - Same Old Story - L2s Recordings

Yes, it‘s the same old story, but told in fresh ways and with new words. Atmospheric UK garage and 2step out of the school of 98, sometimes more forward stomping, sometimes more sensuous and laid back. Special mention gets the sparse but effective 2stepping remix by Clueless - hypnotical.
