Review on S3A – U.K. EP

Released on Quintessentials

The “U.K. EP” sees two established contributors of today’s house music culture join forces. The Quintessentials label, that’s providing proper dance music since 2008 and French producer and dj S3A, who’s part of the French scene with international emissions since 2009. Equipped with a solid musical expertise in house, soul, funk and hip hop S3A delivered quite a bunch of output on labels like Phonogramme, Local Talk, Faces Records, Lazare Hoche, La Chinerie or his own Sampling As An Art Records. On his “U.K. EP” he stays on the soulful sides of house music and enters some positive vibes to the Quintessentials roster. But it’s not that kind of pure soulful tenderness that’s been carried along the four titles. Deep, warm and a little dirty is what describes best the way things go in here built by a kind of approach on soul and funk that reminds a bit on Blaxploitation soundtracks. The result is a a keenly stirred blend of disco-jazzin’, detroitisch house hooked on vintage jazz rhodes, wah-wah guitars, trumpets, horns and funk-out shouts spreading a pleasant energy tempered from chilled dope moods to jolly and triumphant dispositions.
