Review: Hector Plimmer – Bossa B

Released on Albert's Favourites

We start into some jazzy spaces of modern electronica when the playback of Hector Plimmer’s single “Bossa B” begins. While his precedent full-length album “Sunshine” on Albert’s Favourites had also chosen a course through ritual downbeat disco and psychedelic pop the designer, producer, dj and winner of the PRS Steve Reid InNOVAtion Award from London moves his jazzy site into focus here.
A feel of nostalgia and a clue of late 70’s space euphoria comes up when the original version of “Bossa B” rolls by with his doomy ragga-esque beat sequence and subtle melodic movement that creates a kind of cinematic tension. Besides this charming vintage space jazz vibes there are two enriching remixes to be found on this single drop. The first comes from well-known house ‘n’ beats producer Glenn Astro, who adds some pace, drive and funk into his version and presents a moody floor house tune with trickily shifted hi-hat swarming and groovy bass line that’s ready to amuse late-night feet. Deoke also straightens the beat but stays in the realms of downtempo grooves with the subtle tension of the original and a laid-back cosmic approach. Truly a nice pack for dope electronic lovers and moody house heads!
