Review: Patrice Scott – Soulfood

Released on Sistrum Recordings

One of the highly influential figures of Detroit’s electronic dance music scene comes along with a new EP tuned for the summer. Patrice Scott the mind behind Sistrum Recordings has been busy doing atmospheric house and deeper shades of techno for more than ten years by now. On his recent EP works called “Soulfood” he presents some deep house with a more seldom side of airiness to his sound. Easy jazz rhodes, tenderly waving melodies, groovy bass lines and organic rhythm structures give shape to the three titles in here. Nevertheless it’s still the handwriting of Patrice Scott audible on this productions. For example in the tension felt when the subtle, spacey shrouds of sound give moody gravity or on the decently futuristic itch the synth melodies and bass plays are accompanied by. That’s music seeking for a sunny day and starry sky and will surely find a lot of it this summer!
